Obama's student loan forgiveness plan... the debate begins

Conservative bloggers took President Barack Obama to school Thursday for his new student loan program, criticizing him for circumventing Congress to push an ill-conceived plan, while liberals online accused the right of driving students into “debt bondage.”
The plan that Obama announced on Wednesday caps student loan payments at 10 percent of discretionary income and forgives debt after 20 years, compared to the previous program, in which the cap stood at 15 percent and debt forgiveness was granted after 25 years.

In terms of the policy itself, Lindsey Burke at the conservative Heritage Foundation’s Foundry blog wrote that the costs of forgiving student loans would be unfairly shouldered by those who pay taxes but never had the chance to go to college.
“It is unfair to forgive student loans on the backs of waitresses and construction workers and the nearly three-quarters of Americans who didn’t graduate college. Increases in federal subsidies or student loan bailouts shift the burden of paying for college from the student—the person directly benefiting from college—to the millions of Americans who did not graduate from college,” writes Burke.
This led to an aggressive response from the progressive group ThinkProgress’ blog.
“If those on the right were to have their way, Americans would be forced into even further debt bondage, unable to make ends meet and lead productive and prosperous lives under the weight of student loan debt,” writes Zaid Jilani. “Without subsidized federal loans and grants that many on the far-right seek to undermine, students would be pushed into the arms of private lenders, whose rates tend to be far more suffocating.”
Conservatives argued, on the other hand, that the practice of allowing debt forgiveness allows irresponsible students to choose degrees in fields that allow no prospect of paying back the debt.
“One of the failings of our public school systems is the lack of basic economic literacy of so many of our students,” writes RedState’s Kevin Holtsberry. “If you are a bright student who wants to go into engineering or science education or nursing (or some other field with a clear need and a career path) but can’t afford it, I am open to scholarships and incentives. But if you want to get an advanced degree with no plan or idea on what type of career you want and no plan to ever be able to pay back your gargantuan debt, then no, you can’t borrow money.”
Another concern was that Obama was acting on the issue of student loans without consulting Congress.“This time, the Emperor — excuse me, President — has focused on student loans to ease our economic suffering, relaxing repayment regulations,” wrote HotAir’s Ed Morrissey.
Some of those credited Obama with a smart political play.
“Looking at these awful youth [polling] numbers, it is not at all surprising that the Obama administration has decided to unveil a new initiative to help young people with student loans,” writes Jon Walker at FireDogLake.
“Overall, it’s a small but relatively sensible program to reduce student loan debt. And given that student loan debt is one of the signature laments of the 99% movement, it’s probably decent politics,” added the blog’s David Dayden.
To be sure, much of the 99 percent movement involved concerns about student debt. The 99 percent website, a collection of stories from those with unfortunate circumstances, references student debt frequently.
Meanwhile, at the University of Colorado - Denver, where the president made his announcement Wednesday, at least one columnist praised the changes to the student loans program.
“With the job market as tough as it is today, it is nice to see that someone has students’ best interests in mind. This could be an important step in making it easier for more Americans to get their college degrees, and ease the stress about how to repay their student loans. Thanks for looking out for us, Mr. President,” writes Daniel Alvarez of the university’s newspaper,

why you should never go to Premier Fitness

In the past, if you had a bad experience with a company, you had to basically keep it with yourself. Sure, you could tell your friends and neighbors to avoid it, but unless you felt like organizing a massive boycott, your influence was limited.

But with the spread of social media, it's getting easier and easier to complain when a business screws you over -- a sad lesson gym chain Premier Fitness is learning this morning. A few hours ago, Reddit user Peripheryy shared his experience with Premier on the popular message board site:

The Premier Fitness down the road from my work has ALL kinds of boxes for people to sign up to win gift cards to different stores around the mall, the movies, etc. I signed up for one for a $50 gift card to Pac Sun, and received a call saying I'd won, and to meet them the next day to pick it up.

When I got there, he began showing me around, and told me I'd won a free month at the gym. I signed a small form for my membership, and asked about the gift card. Of course, he tells me that it's a different drawing for the gift card that I had to sign up for. I said no and left.

About 2 weeks later, I receive a bill for $1300. I immediately call the company, and they say I signed up for a non-cancelable 3 year contract with the gym. I told them, no. I didn't. So the man I was speaking to began screaming at me, calling me a dickf**k (among other things), and hung up on me.

The next night, I went there to get a copy of the contract. Long story short, I politely asked for the contract and the manager (huge, bodybuilder type) got in my face, threatened me, and told me to get out or he was calling the cops. I immediately left, called the cops, and they accompanied me there while I got a copy of the contract. Here's where it gets interesting.

The man that signed me up had signed me up for 3 years on the contract, AFTER I LEFT THE GYM. I was furious. I called the local news, reported them to the attorney general, and reported them to the Better Business Bureau.

Thankfully, after a few weeks, I got a response from the attorney general saying he'd taken care of it, and had a fax from Premier's office manager saying she'd cancel the contract.

Before the story could be dismissed this as the work of one disgruntled troll, other users began commenting, sharing their tales of similarly unpleasant experiences with Premier, and linking to news coverage calling Premier one of the worst gyms out there.

We don't consider ourselves consumer reporters. But if you're looking to get thin, you might want to avoid Premiere -- there, the only thing that shrinks will be your wallet.

Best Abs Workout for Belly Fat Loss?

Many people are always asking the question "What is the best ab workout for losing stomach fat?" or generally wants to know how to get a flat stomach. Of course, everyone wants to burn that disgusting stomach fat and feel sexy for themselves so it is quite expected for misconceptions on getting a flatter stomach to arise. Almost everyone has varying degrees of excess body fat in the abdominal region, and the best way to burn off that extra stomach fat continues to cause some anxiety in individuals.

The common belief that ab workouts will help you to lose belly fat is one of the biggest misconceptions of personal fitness. The problem is that most people are searching for the wrong exercises and workout types to lose stubborn belly fat. Most people are searching for some miraculous combination of abs exercises combined into the best ab workout ever invented that will burn off their belly fat faster than you can read here. However, the truth is there are NO Ab workouts that will burn off that extra belly fat for you simply because ab work outs alone does not create enough of a metabolic response in your body to create fat loss. You don't lose stomach fat by doing ab workouts.Ab work outs only tone and strengthen the underlying abdominal muscles. You should rather focus on a full body strategic workout that will cause a much greater metabolic rate increase and fat-burning hormonal response from your training program as a whole. Even cardiovascular workouts will not create the greatest metabolic response or hormonal response either. What you need is a much more rounded training program that focuses on training the entire body with resistance training and multi-joint exercises in a higher intensity fashion.
If you are looking for best exercises for losing belly fat then you should consider doing
squats, lunges, deadlifts, clean & presses, swings, presses and pulls, mountain climbers, sprinting, snatches, etc. These full body exercises would encompass a much higher percentage of the workouts you should consider instead of abs exercises directly targeting the midsection. The way you combine these exercises into a strategic workout that will maximize your metabolism is also important.
This is not to completely write off exercises that directly target the abs and core but you should better spend your time focusing on full body exercises that stimulate the greatest hormonal and metabolic changes within the body. A side-effect of working out using mostly full body multi-joint combo exercises are that you indirectly work your entire midsection even though you are not specifically targeting the abs.
Now, you should know that the most important factor for losing belly fat to see your abs and to get a 6 pack mostly has to do with nutrition. No matter how hard your workout routine is, if your diet is full of junk, then your abdominals will be covered with ugly fat. Nutrition is without a doubt the "king of getting a six pack" and rightfully so.
So, to put it straight: Don't waste so much of your time focusing on situps, leg raises, crunchies and all those silly worthless "ab contraptions" in your efforts to try to develop 6-pack abs. Focus on high intensity full body lifts using combination multi-joint exercises all strategically combined into highly effective fat loss workouts. Couple that with a healthy diet full of natural unprocessed whole foods as close to their natural state as possible, and those elusive six-pack abdominals and flat tummy you have been wanting will be yours in no time! A much smarter full body resistance training routine and a clean healthy balanced diet are the most important factors of getting flat tummy fast rather than all the ineffective ripped abs workout and flat stomach or belly exercises that you hear.

Venue: Old Trafford
You can watch Manchester United Vs Manchester City derby live on you computer here.
Match Overview
The highly anticipated Manchester derby will see Manchester City arrive at Old Trafford as league leaders, but Manchester United can reclaim top spot with victory over their bitter rivals.
The most recent match between these two sides saw United come from two goals down to win the Community Shield 3-2, but this will be a match with an entirely different complexion to the season curtain raiser.
United haven’t lost to City in the league since the Sky Blues did the double on them in the 2007/08 Premier League season, with the Red Devils emerging victorious in five of the last six league fixtures.
Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Nani all started on the bench last weekend for United’s clash with Liverpool, but it is expected that Sir Alex Ferguson will restore the trio to his starting eleven. Roberto Mancini is expected to give Sergio Aguero a start, after the Argentine striker missed City’s 4-1 thumping of Aston Villa with injury last weekend.
Key Factors in the Match
Experience of United
While City have stolen all the headlines in the past few seasons with their extraordinary actions in the transfer marker, there is no doubt United are still the ‘big boys’ when it comes to the on field action.
Arguably City have a stronger squad now than United on paper, but one thing that Sir Alex Ferguson has been phenomenal at is transferring that winning culture into every player who arrives at Old Trafford. This attitude is demonstrated by the fact that United are currently on a club record 19 consecutive wins at Old Tafford in the league.
United may not have played fantastic football in all 19 matches, indeed their 19thwin against Norwich could have easily been a defeat two weeks ago, but it is the ability of Sir Alex’s side to win no matter the circumstance that is so impressive.
City’s Creative Playmakers
If City do surge to a five point lead on the Premier League table, it will no doubt be in part because of their creative playmakers. David Silva is in career best form, with his dribbling and passing abilities embarrassing defences consistently this season. The Spaniard has five assists along with two goals to his name so far this season, and the only player in the Premier League with more assists is teammate Samir Nasri who has six.
Nasri and Silva have been at the heart of everything creatively about City so far this term, and it showed recently when they were both poor against Villarreal in the Champions League. City looked devoid of spark and intuition in their midweek fixture with the creative duo off their game, and Sir Alex will certainly be concocting a plan to keep them quiet again.
Defensive Concerns
Both teams are suffering defensive concerns, although statistically both United and City, along with Newcastle, have the best defences in the league, the trio only conceding six goals apiece.
But injuries at Old Trafford mean there has been constant upheaval in the United back four, Rio Ferdinand played last weekend but then missed the Champions League midweek fixture. Captain Nemanja Vidic made his return for United in the midweek, having not played since coming off with injury in the opening match of the season against West Brom. Whether Ferguson finally goes with his first choice central defensive partnership is uncertain, though Ferdinand is likely to start given he was rested from the midweek fixure.
City meanwhile have enjoyed a far more settled back four, however question marks still remain over the quality of the unit. Micah Richards looks to be back on track to becoming an England star, and captain Vincent Kompany has been superb. Joleon Lescott though is still unconvincing, just last weekend he was too easily bustled off the ball by Gabriel Agbonlahor and lucky not to pay the price. On the far left Mancini still appears undecided between Gael Clichy and Aleksandar Kolarov, both offer plenty in attack, but critically they are still susceptible in their primary defensive duties.
Anomaly
For all the tactics, planning and preparation that goes in ahead of this match, Wayne Rooney’s stunning bicycle kick to win this fixture last season cannot be planned for. Just last round Mario Balotelli pulled a similar stunt with a bicycle kick from close range, creating a goal from a chance that seemingly did not exist.
Several players on both sides have an elite quality on the pitch, so that no matter what Sir Alex or Mancini do, they simply cannot control what happens. Sergio Aguero has demonstrated he has that quality with his eight strikes in the Premier League thus far, only Rooney has more with nine. David Silva must now be recognised as one of the best midfielders in the world, and he is ably supported by Yaya Toure and Nasri.
For United of course there is Rooney, but Ashley Young and Nani are also both close to unplayable on their day, despite the continuous question marks over their consistency. Javier Hernandez is quickly developing into hero status at Old Trafford, with his goal against Liverpool continuing to push him along that route.
Match Prediction
Sir Alex Ferguson surprised much of the football world with his team selection at Anfield last round, but he won’t do so again for the Manchester derby. The more interesting choice in selection rests with his counterpart Mancini, does he opt for two strikers or play a holding midfielder?
Given the relatively poor form of Edin Dzeko in the last few fixtures, Mancini may well go with Nigel de Jong in midfield alongside Gareth Barry. This will leave Sergio Aguero upfront alone in a 4-2-3-1 formation, but with David Silva, Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri supporting Aguero, there is still plenty of attacking flair in the side.
The emphasis on both sides will be not to lose, City are ahead of United on the table and won’t want to give that up, while United will not want to drop five points behind City, so you suspect both sides would take a draw if offered it. That said, this is the Manchester derby, tackles will fly in, heads will lose their cool, and the spectacular might just happen again.

UCLA Football Midseason Grade Comparison

Here is a wonderful roundup of the UCLA Football I came across and thought y"all will want to see, it's from the people over at Bruinsnation :
During the past summer, we layed out "The Eye Test", a set of 6 objectives that we hoped to see the Bruin football team to meet on a game in and game out basis. After every game of this season, we have graded the team on an A-F basis on how they have met each of the 6 objectives, leading to a GPA for the game, and for the season to date.

1) Is our defense prepared for each and every team we play?
2) Do we call offensive plays to catch our opponents off guard?
3) Do our players look like they know what they should be doing at all times?
4) Do our players play for 60 G-D minutes every game?
5) Do our players execute?
6) Do we have leaders on the field?
The point of this is not to show whether UCLA is having a Championship season, but to ask - as KnudsenRockne did when presenting this idea - whether the Bruins are playing like Champions, regardless of what the win-loss record happens to show. Meanwhile, as freesia noted in yesterday's Spaulding Roundup, some of the various UCLA beat writers have published midseason report cards for the Bruin Football team, using more traditional divisions of grading, dividing the team into its various offensive and defensive units, as well as special teams and coaching. With tonight being the start of the second half of the Bruins season, this looks like a good time to take a look at our Eye Test GPA, and how it compares to the Grades and GPA assigned by Jon Gold for the Daily News and Peter Yoon for ESPN LA.
While I will break down the Eye Test grading in a moment, I'll start by listing the overall GPA for each game. Houston: 2.05; San Jose State: 0.67Texas: 0.22Oregon State: 2.12: Stanford: 1.97; Washington State: 1.95. The overall Bruins Nation Eye Test GPA: 1.50. In comparison, the beat writer GPA's are: Gold/Daily News: 1.89. Yoon/ESPN LA: 1.90.
While Bruins Nation may look like a hard grader, giving the team low, but not failing grades, the reporters following the team have not been much more impressed than the frontpagers with how the Bruins have started out the season. With half a year down, a student with any of these grades would find themselves on Academic Probation - with time and opportunity to turn things around, but with the prospect of significant changes if the status quo continues.
Star-divide
To start things off, here is a breakdown of the Eye Test GPA, by category.
1) Is our defense prepared for each and every team we play? GPA: High: 1.7 - Oregon State, Washington State. Low: 0.0 - San Jose State, Texas
After the opening game at Houston, Tony Dye noted that the defense had not been prepared for Houston's offensive game plan, which basically called for Case Keenum to throw a bunch of short passes to take advantage of the 5-7 yards that UCLA DB's routinely give to opposing WR's. Against San Jose State, a team that runs a similar offense to our own, the UCLA defense was dominated through the first 3 quarters, seemingly unready for an offense that it sees in practice every week. Further down the line, the lack of fundamentals shown by the defense has been all too glaring. Not to mention the question of whether we really have our best personnel on the field for the majority of the game. Really, you can say that the Bruin defense is prepared to bend but not break, but is that really the way to succeed?
2) Do we call offensive plays to catch our opponents off guard? GPA: High: 3.3 - Houston. Low: 0.0 - Texas
The season started out with a well-balanced attack against what looks to be a solid team. After catching 3 passes in 2010, Joseph Fauria caught 6 against Houston in emerging as another weapon for Mike Johnson's offense to take advantage of. Of course, his appearances have been few and far between since then, though making his rare catches count. The lack of Fauria for long stretches of the season is just one symptom of the conservatism that has infected Coach Neuheisel's mindset.
3) Do our players look like they know what they should be doing at all times? GPA: High: 2.3 - Stanford. Low: 0.0 - Texas
There is some linkage with the first criteria for the team, though this one goes beyond game planning and basic preparation. A couple of all-too common faults that we have noted in this criteria have been penalties and a lack of communication, particularly coming from the sideline.
4) Do our players play for 60 G-D minutes every game? GPA: High: 2.7 - Oregon State, Stanford. Low: 0.0 - San Jose State, Texas
Something that we can take away from the first 6 games is that the team has never quit. Whether or not they look to have played at their maximum for the whole 60 minutes, they have not laid down. After watching Bruin teams of the recent past allow opponents to gather steam and roll over them in the later minutes of blowout losses, the 2011 edition has fought to the end, even in games against Stanford and Texas where the game was decided long before the final whistle. With that said, there has been a bit of sleepwalking in the last few weeks, particularly in that San Jose State game, where it seemed like a local high school team - not Poly or Mater Dei - put on some blue and gold uniforms and took the Rose Bowl field.
5) Do our players execute? GPA: High: 2.3 - Stanford, Washington State. Low: 1.3 - San Jose State, Texas
Execution has been a weak point for the Bruins this season, though sadly this season's deficiency is not a unique occurrence. The Defense and Special Teams have been battling it out for
6) Do we have leaders on the field? GPA: High: 2.3 - Houston. Low: 0.0 - Texas
This has been a mixed bag - at time we have seen guys like Richard Brehaut and Johnathan Franklin step up and rally the troops, while Joseph Fauria has not shied away from making his feelings known, but not so much from the defensive side of the ball. At times like the Texas game, there has been little spark from the supposed leaders - from players as well as from the coaching staff. And while I realize that this is an epidemic infecting college football, and really too much of college and pro sports, but seeing players celebrating routine plays as if they just won the Super Bowl just looks tacky. Particularly when it is happening against teams that UCLA should be beating down - but is not - it just does not seem right.
While Gold and Yoon came to a similar conclusion in their view of the Bruins performance to date, they did differ in a few points, in terms of the basic grade as well as their analysis. Here is how they graded the various units and the coaching, with their reasoning mixed with a few of my thoughts on how the eye test fits into some of the units.
Quarterbacks: Gold - 2.3, Yoon - 2.0.
The passing game is certainly improved from last year, though the early uncertainty at the position hindered the progression of both Brehaut and Kevin Prince. While Prince has experience leading the team through tight spots, I still need to see him really lead this year's team before figuring out just how the position is going to shake out - the view from my seat at the Texas game of Prince's reaction to getting benched, and the team's (very positive) reaction to Brehaut taking over still sticks.
Running Backs: Gold - 3.0, Yoon - 3.0.
Johnathan Franklin and Derrick Coleman are very good runners that have been significant parts of the offense. For anyone that has been on this site on game days and in the days following, the idea that the runners have been a bit too central to the Bruin offense is not a new one. Both of these guys - as well as Jordon James and Malcolm Jones - are talented enough to get the ball often, but the share of run calls - and the exclusive use of the Pistol formation - points to the conservatism at the top of the UCLA football program.
Wide Receivers: Gold - 2.3, Yoon - 2.0.
Problems with effort and consistency were key parts of both report cards, as well as a focus of our analysis in the Eye Test. Nelson Rosario has accrued plenty of yards, and when he is on, has made several outstanding catches - his one-handed pin against Houston is ESPN's #1 play in College Football this season to date. When he has been made part of the game plan, Fauria has proven to be a key weapon in the passing attach. But Rosario's focus and Fauria's presence have not a constant in the Bruin offense.
Offensive Line: Gold - 2.7. Yoon - 3.0.
The story is of a unit whose talent does not match those of the skill players around them, but finding a way to play up to and above their level of talent. The Bruins are running the ball well behind these guys, and pass protection has improved since last fall. With that said, injuries have taken their toll on the group, while Gold writes that a remaining deficiency in protecting the quarterback might be one factor in the offensive conservatism. Whatever their flaws, these guys look to have done the most with the least on this team, something that has been true for the past couple of years.
Defensive Line: Gold - 0.7, Yoon - 1.0
After talking about the O-line doing the most with the least, we come to their opposite number, on the field as well as in the rankings. After a series of preseason reports advertising the strength of the defense, and of the D-line in particular, the unit has been a massive dissapointment. As Yoon wrote in his report card entry, the Bruin D ranks in the bottom-10 nationally in Sacks and Tackles-for-Loss, while allowing more than 180 rushing yards/game, and being physically dominated by smaller and less talented opposing O-lines. With that said, the line took a step forward against Washington State. Hopefully, they build upon that performance tonight and into the second half of the season.
Linebackers: Gold - 1.3, Yoon - 2.0.
Another unit where the overall talent at the position has not come through in its production. Again, Lapses - particularly in pass coverage - have hindered the linebackers. The overall lack of fundamental play, whether it be in tackling or the aforementioned lapses have hurt, and is not unique to the 'Backers. While there has been some discussion on how useful Sean Westgate is to this defense, seeing guys like Eric Kendricks and Jordan Zumwalt out of the starting lineup, and less development than hoped from Patrick Larimore since last fall raises questions.
Defensive Backs: Gold - 2.7, Yoon - 2.0
This comes down to strong play - particularly from Aaron Hester and Sheldon Price - balanced against a conservative bend-but don't-break scheme that exposes the DB's to giving up short-yardage plays all game long, helping quarterbacks opposing the Bruins rank in the top quartile in passing efficiency nationally. Our corners are certainly not a weakness of this team, and it would be nice to see them able to become more aggressive in their play later in this season. Injuries are taking a toll on the depth of the unit, as well as taking Tony Dye out of the defensive backfield, possible for the remainder of the season.
Special Teams: Gold - 1.0, Yoon - 1.0
Aside from the Defensive line, the lowest rated part of the team in the first half of the season. The placekicking woes may be the most obvious problem - with a temporary solution coming via UCLA Soccer - but the coverage and return teams have been woeful, as well as the decision to go ultra conservative in the choice of a punt returner. As Peter Yoon wrote:
The Bruins rank 102nd or lower in punt returns, kickoff returns, punt return defense and kickoff return defense. Some of UCLA's most memorable gaffes this season -- Oregon State's punt return for a touchdown and Taylor Embree's fumble against Stanford -- have come on special teams.
Coaching: Gold - 1.0, Yoon - 1.5 (Offense - 2.0, Defense - 1.0).
Particularly when applied to the defense, I could easily say that the beat writers were being generous to the coaches, where a passive conservatism, along with a shortage on in-game adjustments to the opponent's game plan has combined with the lack of fundamentals taught during training camp to find a defense playing far below its talent, and too often playing down to the opposition (or below it). On the plus side, the passing game has been more effective than it was last season, and Coach Palic seems to be holding the O-line together as well as one can.

Kim Kardashian's wedding in the rocks: Agent Drops Kris Humphries

Kris Moving out
Ok, I guess this did not come as a surprise to anybody.............. Here is the report
Uh oh. Have Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries fallen victim to "the curse of 'Hello!' magazine" already? It seemed like a marriage made in reality TV heaven, but reports this week suggest that if you haven't already picked out a gift from Kim's spectacular wedding list, then don't bother.
Before the ink's even had time to dry on the thank-you notes comes news that the newlyweds' relationship may have hit the rocks. There have been numerous "Splitsville!" reports in various publications, with allegations ranging from serial flirting to visits to a divorce lawyer through missing wedding rings, ex-girlfriends reappearing and -- gasp -- no reality TV future for Kris.

Now comes a report that Kim's agent has dropped Kris as a client. And, that the Kardashian reality TV behemoth allegedly has no plans to feature the couple together on a reality show. Not even a road-to-divorce one. And we had so many plans for them ...

According to 'The MailOnline', not only has Kim's agent at William Morris dumped Kris, but it could be game over for the fledgling marriage. The website quotes a source close to the pair as saying "I don't know when they'll announce the split or why they got married in the first place but they are done."

The source then spelled it out: "They are divorcing. They haven't been together for a month and while Kim has been staying in New York she has been staying in a hotel room which Kris has failed to visit."

And there we were thinking that Kim's only wedding regret was that she wished she'd stood on a box to kiss her new husband ...

'Life & Style' says the couple -- who, let's face it, seem to barely even know each other -- are living separate lives. A producer on 'Kourtney & Kim Take New York' told the magazine that "Kim's mapping out 2012, including holidays, and Kris isn't a part of it. Any itineraries for the future don't include Kris very much. That's not a good sign."

But it is a good sign for fans of the show, who presumably can now be rest assured that they'll be following the sisters' antics through next year. Sans Kris getting in the way or making Kim look short.

'Page Six' examined reports that Kim was seen in a New York City office building recently, on the same floor where a hot-shot New York divorce lawyer has his office, and discovered that the lawyer denies meeting with her. Robert M. Wallack said "I didn't meet with her and I am not representing her. I wish Kim and Kris a long, healthy and happy marriage."

Although Kris told Jay Leno about how he was initially hesitant about dating Kim, her sister Khloe expressed skepticism about his change of heart. Voicing her concerns about the marriage -- on 'Keeping Up With the Kardashians,' natch -- Khloe said he was only in on the deal so he could raise his media profile.

However, despite the rumors Kim is still flashing that ginormous rock on her left hand, so perhaps the relationship can still be salvaged. Stay tuned for updates.

World Series Game 2: Rangers Coasting All The Way

Josh Hamilton and the Rangers are heading home with all the momentum – and their slumbering offense is finally showing signs of life.
Ian Kinsler and Elvis Andrus delivered back-to-back singles in the ninth inning Thursday night before Hamilton and Michael Young brought them in with a pair of sacrifice flies, allowing Texas to tie the World Series with a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 2.

Baffled most of the night by Jaime Garcia and the Cardinals' stingy bullpen, the Rangers were three outs from heading back to Texas in another two-game hole. Instead, they mustered just enough offense on a night when runs were at a premium, and they suddenly seem to have the upper hand.
The Rangers were 52-29 at home this season; they went 44-37 on the road.
"It was calm in our dugout the whole night," manager Ron Washington said. "You've got to keep fighting. We needed to get one here. And I think tonight was one of those great ballgames that you'll continue to see between the Texas Rangers and the St. Louis Cardinals."
Texas powered its way into the World Series by launching balls out of the park.
Nelson Cruz was the MVP of the AL championship series mostly because he had six homers and 13 RBIs against the Detroit Tigers – both major league records for a postseason series. Kinsler and Adrian Beltre each bopped 32 homers during the season, Hamilton wasn't far behind with 25, and Mike Napoli's homer drove in Texas' only runs in a 3-2 loss to St. Louis in Game 1.
But with the big bats fizzling, the Rangers used daring baserunning to finally get some runs.
Kinsler singled off previously untouchable closer Jason Motte to start the ninth, and Washington sent him in an effort to put the tying run in scoring position. It wound up being a bang-bang play at second, but Kinsler slid in safely with a stolen base just ahead of the strong throw by catcher Yadier Molina.
Andrus followed with a base hit to center that sent Kinsler to third, and Andrus alertly advanced to second when the cutoff throw got by first baseman Albert Pujols and went all the way to the plate.
That was critical. Hamilton hit the first pitch from Arthur Rhodes to right field for a tying sacrifice fly. Andrus was aggressive again in moving up to third base on the play, and he came home moments later when Young hit his sacrifice fly to center.
"It wasn't a series-saving rally," Kinsler said, "but it was huge."
More than an hour after the game, the official scorers charged Pujols with an error.
The Rangers had been in jeopardy of heading home in the same predicament they faced last year.
After dropping the first two World Series games in franchise history in San Francisco, Texas managed to win Game 3 behind the stellar pitching of Colby Lewis. But the Rangers lost the next two games and wound up watching the Giants celebrate on their home field.
That's the fate they'll try to avoid when this year's Series resumes Saturday night.
"It's just our attitude, up and down our lineup. Our guys want to win ballgames," Hamilton said, "and it doesn't matter if we're down five runs or up five runs. We have that attitude that until the last out's made, we're going to keep fighting."
Hamilton's clutch sacrifice fly may have been the extent of what he could do.
The ailing slugger said before the game that a sore groin that's been bothering him for months would probably have put him on the disabled list if this was the regular season. Instead, he's been forced to play through pain on baseball's biggest stage.
Hamilton remains hitless in seven at-bats against St. Louis, and is 2 for 27 going back to last year's World Series. But he had enough power in his stride to launch a sacrifice fly to the outfield when it mattered the most.
One that helped send the Rangers back home with all the momentum.
"It would have been hard," Hamilton said of the prospects of a two-game hole. "We would have been comfortable going back to our place, having three games. They're just like we are, never say die, 'til the last out is made. It makes it fun."

Siasia to resign this week

Embattled Nigeria Senior Soccer Team Coach, Samson Siasia is considering the option of resignation to avoid being sacked by the Nigeria Football Federation. Eagles,
This is coming on the heels of a revelation by a top official of the federation that Siasia, whose team failed to qualify for the 2012 Africa Nations Cup, could throw in the towel this week. The NFF board will meet next week to deliberate on issues bordering on the country’s failure to make the 16-team 2012 Nations Cup.

The agenda also has the recommendation of the NFF Technical Committee, which the source said included sacking the coach for failing to fulfill the terms of his contract. Siasia, who was at the NFF secretariat yesterday, met with met with top shots of the football federation who advised him to resign to in order to give him the opportunity of a soft landing.
However, the acting Secretary of the Nigerian football body Amadu Musa told reporters that the board had not thought of forcing the coach to resign, adding that Siasia only visited the NFF secretariat in his capacity as the national team coach. He disclosed that the NFF board has received the technical committee’s recommendation, adding that the board would soon meet to deliberate on it.
“There is nothing like mounting pressure on the coach to resign,” Amadu said. “All I know is that the technical committee, which met to discuss the future of the coach following Super Eagles’ inability to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, has submitted its recommendations to the board and the board will meet soon to deliberate on them.
However indications has shown that Siasia  was considering bowing to the pressure to quit before the NFF board meets next week. Before leaving the NFF secretariat, Siasia told journalists that he was considering resigning or accepting to work under a technical adviser as recommended by the technical committee.
“I am still weighing the options,” he added.
Samson Siasia is the most successful indigenous Soccer Coach of Nigeria. He has both played and coached in different age grades in the nation's soccer winning many laurels for the country more than any other player (both as a coach and player). His inability to qualify the Senior National Soccer Team to the upcoming African Cup of Nations Tournament has cost him the favor of the Nigerian soccer loving populace who take winning soccer events in the country as a 'do or die' affair. Unfortunately, it has mostly turned to them a die affair.

World's Best Universities

Harvard University may be America's top-ranked national university, along with Princeton University, in U.S.News & World Report's latest Best Colleges rankings, but a competitor across the pond is now stealing some of that thunder.
For the second year in a row, the United Kingdom's University of Cambridge topped Harvard in the U.S. News World's Best Universities rankings, released today and based on data from the 2011 QS World University Rankings. Developed by QS Quacquarelli Symonds, a leading global career and education network, the World's Best rankings showcase the top international universities, from North and South America to Europe and Asia and beyond.

Six distinct indicators were evaluated to rank the top 400 universities worldwide: academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, proportion of international faculty, proportion of international students, and citations per faculty. The gap between Cambridge and Harvard was incredibly small--a difference of about 0.7 points in their overall scores--and can be attributed to Cambridge's more impressive faculty-student ratio.
Despite Harvard falling slightly behind a U.K. university, U.S. schools dominated the top 400 list, with six American institutions appearing in the top 10 (Harvard, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Yale University, University of Chicago, University of Pennsylvania, and Columbia University). The highest showing by a non-American or non-British university was Canada's McGill University, at No. 17. Asia's highest ranking came via University of Hong Kong (HKU), at No. 22.
A separate ranking of the top 100 Asian universities highlights the dynamism of the Asian region, where countries such as China, South Korea, and India are investing heavily in higher education to cater to both domestic and international students. This year, to better reflect the region's unique character, a distinct methodology from the top 400 global rankings was used, with indicators such as Asian academic reputation and Asian employer review.
The leaders of the pack came from Hong Kong, with Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and HKU taking the first and second spots, respectively. The gap between the two was very narrow--a difference of 0.2 points in their overall scores--with HKUST's research productivity giving it the edge. Japan, whose economy is slowly recovering from the devastating March 2011 earthquake and tsunami, was nonetheless dominant in the Asian rankings, with five Japanese schools in the top 10.
Meanwhile, China, the world's largest source for international students at U.S. universities, made strides with its own schools. Peking University and Tsinghua University were both among the top 20 best Asian universities, performing very well in the academic and employer reputation indicators. India didn't fare as well, due to low citations scores; its highest entries were three Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT Kanpur, Delhi, and Bombay) at No. 36, No. 37, and No. 38, respectively.
Like Asia, Latin America is undergoing significant development, propelled by rising economic powerhouse Brazil. The country's Universidad de SĂŁo Paulo took the No. 1 spot in the top 100 Latin American universities rankings, beating Chile's Pontificia Universidad CatĂłlica de Chile by 0.4 points in its overall score. The new Latin rankings use a distinct methodology, evaluating indicators such as Latin American academic reputation, Latin American employer review, and proportion of staff with Ph.D.'s.
Brazil was the clear leader, fielding three institutions in the top 10 and eight in the top 20. The country's huge investments in higher education to fuel economic growth, and its prioritization of research, have paid off: Brazilian universities performed particularly well in measures such as papers per faculty and proportion of academics with Ph.D.'s.
Meanwhile, Mexico--with two institutions in the top 10 of the Latin rankings--showcased strong reputations across the region, despite lower performance in research measures for most of its universities. The fifth-ranked Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) had the highest academic reputation, while seventh-ranked Tecnológico de Monterrey (ITESM) had the second-highest employer reputation.
Going beyond global and regional comparisons, the new World's Best Universities subject rankings examine the top schools worldwide in 24 subjects (top 30 for chemical engineering and top 50 for all other subjects). Divided into five broad categories--arts and humanities; engineering and technology; life sciences; natural sciences; and social sciences--the individual subject rankings are based on academic reputation, employer reputation, and citations per paper.
MIT dominated all engineering and technology rankings, taking the top spot in the computer science; civil engineering; chemical engineering; electrical engineering; and mechanical, aeronautical, and manufacturing engineering fields. Other American institutions that had strong showings in that category include Stanford University, University of California--Berkeley, and California Institute of Technology (Caltech).

U.S. universities similarly led the pack in two other broad categories: life sciences and social sciences. In the former, Harvard took the lead in biological sciences and psychology; in the latter, while Harvard took the No. 1 spot atop the accounting and finance; economics and econometrics; politics and international studies; and sociology rankings, Stanford topped the statistics and operational research rankings.
Only the arts and humanities and natural sciences categories showed some variety at the top. Although Harvard once again took the top spots in the majority of the specific subject disciplines, the U.K.'s University of Oxford was ranked No. 1 for geography and area studies, and Cambridge dominated both the linguistics and physics and astronomy subject rankings.
1. University of Cambridge (United Kingdom)
2. Harvard University (United States)
3. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (United States)
4. Yale University (United States)
5. University of Oxford (United Kingdom)
6. Imperial College London (United Kingdom)
7. UCL (University College London) (United Kingdom)
8. University of Chicago (United States)
9. University of Pennsylvania (United States)
10. Columbia University (United States)

Google Music Store Coming Soon - Android Boss

Google worked for a long time to get a music store/service up and running with the blessing of the big music labels. But last spring all of that broke down, so Google launched a cloud-based music locker on its own.
But Google is finally close to launching a music service with help from the labels, Android boss Andy Rubin said today, confirming earlier reports for the first time. When? “I think we’re close”, Rubin said onstage at the AsiaD conference in Hong Kong.

Both Amazon and Apple already sell music and offer cloud lockers, but Rubin promised that Google’s version “will have a little twist – it will have a little Google in it. It won’t just be selling 99 cent tracks.”
Still, Google needs all of the big labels on board, and the most recent reports said only EMI Music was close to a final deal. So “close” could be a relative term.
Meanwhile, about those earlier label deals. Why did they fall apart, anyway?
Rather than accuse the labels of taking an unreasonable stance, as Google executives have previously done, Rubin takes a new tack — he says media companies in general haven’t been able to figure out what Google’s up to. Just like Steve Jobs’s company used to be called “Apple Computer” and evolved into “Apple,” he says, Google is morphing as well.
“Google is in the very very early phases of adding consumer products to our portfolio,” he said. “The media industry didn’t see us as that. They saw us a search company.”
You can connect some dots here and make an educated guess: Rubin is probably referencing media companies’ insistence that Google help them fight piracy by making some sites harder to find. And the search giant has complied, to some degree. But there’s likely more to the story than that.

Barack Obama not a fan of 'The Kardashians'

We neither....
Malia and Sasha Obama apparently love watching "Keeping Up With The Kardashians," and their father Barack Obama doesn't like it.
First Lady Michelle Obama reveals that the girls--ages 13 and 10--have taken to watching the E! show on weekends, the only time they are allowed to watch shows not related to school work.

When asked if any television shows are completely off-limits for the first daughters, Michelle Obama told iVillage, "Barack really thinks ["Keeping Up With The Kardashians"]--when they watch that stuff--he doesn't like that as much. But I sort of feel like if we're talking about it... I'm more concerned with how they take it in. 'What did you learn when you watched that?' If they're learning the right lessons, like, 'That was crazy,' then I'm like, 'Okay.'"

Michelle Obama shared her strategies for keeping her family down to earth while living in the White House. The key for her is family dinner. "It's really the interaction that we have as a family that makes it feel like a home," she said. "It's sitting down at the dinner table and having Barack's day be really the last thing anyone really cares about. So he's sort of the throw-on piece. It's like, 'Oh yeah, Daddy, and what did you do today?'"
While Barack Obama doesn't love his daughters' television taste, the girls are not fans of his crackberry habit. Michelle Obama furthered that Malia and Sasha will say, "We're having dinner, put that down," when Obama checks his Blackberry at the dinner table.

How Liquid Calories May Be Making You Fat... Even Your Favorite Protein Drinks!

Burn The Fat
By Tom Venuto, NSCA-CPT, CSCS (Guest Blogger)
BurnTheFat
At least 7 scientific studies have provided strong evidence that energy containing beverages (i.e., “liquid calories”) do not properly activate the satiety mechanisms in the body and brain and do not satisfy the appetite as well as food in solid form.
Epidemiological research also supports a positive association between calorie-containing beverage consumption and increased body weight or body mass index. New research now suggests that soda may not be the only culprit…

The primary source of liquid calories in the United States Diet is carbohydrate, namely soda. Now running a close second are specialty and dessert coffees. Did you know that a 16 ounce Frappucino can contain 500 calories or even more! That’s one-third of a typical female’s daily calorie intake while on a fat loss program.
A recent study at Purdue University published in the International Journal of Obesity set out to learn even more about this bodyfat - liquid calories relationship.
Researchers compared solid and beverage forms of foods composed primarily of carbohydrate, fat or protein in order to document the independent effect of food form in foods with different dominant macronutrient sources.
Based on previous research, some experts have recommended targeting specific beverages as being “worse” than others. High fructose corn syrup and soda has been singled out the most and you’ve probably seen that yourself in the news.
There’s no question that soda has been on top of the “hit list” for some time now, by virtue of the amounts and frequency of consumption alone.
However, this recent study says that from a pure energy balance perspective, we should be cautious about ALL liquid calories, not just soda and not just carbohydrates!
Fruit juice for example, appears to be an obvious improvement over soda, so many people have swapped out their soda for fruit juice. However, when fruit juice is compared to an equal amount of calories from whole fruit, the whole fruit satisfies appetite better (largely due to the bulk and fiber content), and so you tend to eat fewer calories for the day.
[On an interesting side note, soup does not seem to apply; soup has higher satiety value than calorie containing beverages, possibly for mere cognitive reasons.]
If you were to meticulously track your calories from beverages and you made sure that your calories remained the same for the day, whether liquid or solid, there would probably be little or no difference in your body composition.
But that’s not what usually happens in free-living humans. Most people do not accurately track or report their caloric intake. Our mistake is that we tend to drink calories IN ADDITION TO our usual food intake, not instead of it.
Men are especially guilty of this when they drink alcohol - Men tend to drink AND eat, while women tend to drink INSTEAD OF eating.
This new research found that with all three macronutrients - protein, carbs or fat - daily calorie intake was significantly greater when the beverage form was consumed as compared to the solid.
Yes, it’s true! Even protein drinks did not satisfy the appetite the way that protein foods did!
While you would think that protein drinks are purely a good thing, because protein foods have been proven to reduce appetite and increase satiety, if you turn a solid protein food into a protein drink, it loses it’s appetite suppressive properties in the same way that happens when you turn fruit into fruit juice.
[NOTE: After weight training workouts, liquid nutrition may have benefits that outweigh any downside, especially on muscle-gaining programs]
Why do liquid calories fail to elicit the same response as whole foods? reasons include:
  • high calorie density
  • lower satiety value
  • more calories ingested in short period of time
  • lower demand for oral processing
  • shorter gastrointestinal transit times
  • energy in beverages has greater bioaccessibility and bioavailability
  • mechanisms may include cognitive, orosensory, digestive, metabolic, endocrine and neural influences (human appetite is a complex thing!!!)
  • last but not least, nowhere in our history have our ancestors had access to large amounts of liquid calories. Alcohol may have been around as far back as several thousand years BC, but even that is a blip on the evolutionary calendar of humanity.
As a result, our genetic code has never developed the physiological mechanisms to properly register the caloric content in liquids the way it does when you eat, chew and swallow whole foods.
Bottom line: This study suggests that we shouldn’t just target one type of liquid calories such as soda. If you’re trying to beat body fat, it’s wise to limit all types of liquid calories and eat whole foods as much as possible.
Start by ditching the soda. Then ditch the high calorie dessert coffees. Then cut back on the alcohol. From there, be cautious even about milk, juice and protein drinks.
Drink water or tea instead, or limited amounts of black coffee - without all the high calorie extras.
If you do consume any beverages that contain calories, such as protein shakes, be sure to account for those calories meticulously and be sure you don’t drink them in addition to your usual food intake, but in place of an equal amount of food calories.
Remember, those protein shakes you might be drinking are called “meal replacements” not “free calories!”
For many years I have suggested focusing primarily on whole foods rather than liquids, even protein shakes. Unlike so many other fat reduction programs, BurnThe Fat, Feed The Muscle does not require any kind of liquid meal replacement or protein drinks and our company does not exist to sell supplements; we are here to educate you and millions of others about the realities of body fat loss.
We now have even more scientific data that confirms what Burn The Fat has been teaching all along.

WTF!!! Mystery condition makes woman 21, age 50 years in just a few days

Vietnamese woman Nguyen Thi Phuong now looks like a septugenarian after the rapid aging affliction took hold following an allergic reaction to seafood.
Her sad story began in 2008, when her youthful beauty began to fade over the course of just a few days, leaving her with sagging, wrinkled skin all over her face and body.
Until now she has been forced to wear a mask in public to hide her appearance from prying eyes, but now doctors are attempting to establish what caused her sudden and horrifying aging.
Her husband, carpenter Nguyen Thanh Tuyen says his love for his once beautiful wife has not faded while Phuong, now 26, says her condition has only worsened since she was first struck with the condition.
The couple, from the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre, in Vietnam, have agreed to talk to the media for the first time in order to ask for help.
Some have argued that the condition is lipodystrophy - a rare syndrome that causes a layer of fatty tissue beneath the surface of the skin to disintegrate while the skin itself continues to grow at a startling pace.
The syndrome with no cure leaves its victims with loose folds of skin all over their bodies, wrinkled faces and the gaunt features of people decades their senior.
The condition is extremely rare and out of around seven billion people on the planet, only 2,000 are thought to have lipodystrophy.
Displaying photos of a beautiful 21-year-old woman on her wedding day in 2006, Phuong said: "Five years ago, I was rather pretty and not so ugly like this, right?"
Phuong explained she has long been allergic to seafood and that she had suffered a particularly bad reaction in 2008.
She said: "I was really itchy all over my body. I had to scratch even while sleeping."
Phuong said she took some medicine bought at a local pharmacy instead of going to the hospital because her and her husband Tuyen, now 33, were too poor to afford it.
She said: "After one month of taking the drugs, I became less itchy but hives remained on my skin.
"Then I switched to traditional medicine and all the hives disappeared, together with my itching. However, my skin began to sag and fold."
Phuong then took another kind of traditional medicine to treat her rapid-aging skin problem - but to no avail.
The couple do not remember what the medicine was or which pharmacy they got it from.
Phuong said: "We considered that it was our destiny and I quit treatment in 2009. Now I always wear a face mask whenever I go out.
"The skin on my face, chest and belly have folds like an old woman who has given birth several times although I have never had a child.
"But the rapid-aging syndrome hasn't affected my menstrual cycle, hair, teeth, eyes and mind."
In 2010, the couple migrated to the southern province of Binh Phuoc's Bu Dop District where they rent a small wooden house.
Tuyen continued to work as a carpenter while Phuong got a job at a cashew-nut processing factory.
Both earn a total of VND3 million - less than £92 a month - which means they cannot afford an examination at a major hospital in Ho Chi Minh City.
Tuyen said his wife's disease has not affected his love for her or their relationship.
He said: "I married Phuong when she was a beautiful woman. I have followed her through her disease and have never been shocked at all.
"It's not easy to talk about one's own marital affairs. Just simply understand that I still love her very much."
Phuong said her husband's love is the reason she is able to persevere in the face of adversity.
She said: "He still loves me like before despite the fact that I look old and ugly. With him, I feel more confident to live and work."

Occupy the world: Occupy Wall Street protest to go global

LONDON (Reuters) - For an October revolution, dress warm. That's the word going out - politely - on the Web to rally street protests on Saturday around the globe from New Zealand to Alaska via London, Frankfurt, Washington and, of course, New York, where the past month's Occupy Wall Street movement has inspired a worldwide yell of anger at banks and financiers.
How many will show up, let alone stay to camp out to disrupt city centers for days, or months, to come, is anyone's guess. The hundreds at Manhattan's Zuccotti Park were calling for back-up on Friday, fearing imminent eviction. Rome expects tens of thousands at a national protest of more traditional stamp.
Few other police forces expect more than a few thousand to turn out on the day for what is billed as an exercise in social media-spread, Arab Spring-inspired, grassroots democracy with an emphasis on peaceful, homespun debate, as seen among Madrid's "indignados" in June or at the current Wall Street park sit-in.
Blogs and Facebook pages devoted to "October 15" - #O15 on Twitter - abound with exhortations to keep the peace, bring an open mind, a sleeping bag, food and warm clothing; in Britain, "Occupy London Stock Exchange" is at pains to stress it does not plan to actually, well, occupy the stock exchange.
That may turn off those with a taste for the kind of anarchic violence seen in London in August, at anti-capitalism protests of the past decade and at some rallies against spending cuts in Europe this year. But, as Karlin Younger of consultancy Control Risks said: "When there's a protest by an organization that's very grassroots, you can't be sure who will show up."
Concrete demands are few from those who proclaim "We are the 99 percent," other than a general sense that the other 1 percent - the "greedy and corrupt" rich, and especially banks - should pay more, and that elected governments are not listening.
"It's time for us to unite; it's time for them to listen; people of the world, rise up!" proclaims the Web site United for #GlobalChange. "We are not goods in the hands of politicians and bankers who do not represent us ... We will peacefully demonstrate, talk and organize until we make it happen."
By doing so peacefully, many hope for a wider political impact, by amplifying the chord their ideas strike with millions of voters in wealthy countries who feel ever more squeezed by the global financial crisis while the rich seem to get richer.

"ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"
"We have people from all walks of life joining us every day," said Spyro, one of those behind a Facebook page in London which has grown to have some 12,000 followers in a few weeks, enthused by Occupy Wall Street. Some 5,000 have posted that they will turn out, though even some activists expect fewer will.
Spyro, a 28-year-old graduate who has a well-paid job and did not want his family name published, summed up the main target of the global protests as "the financial system."
Angry at taxpayer bailouts of banks since crisis hit in 2008 and at big bonuses still paid to some who work in them while unemployment blights the lives of many young Britons, he said: "People all over the world, we are saying 'Enough is enough'."
What the remedy would be, Spyro said, was not for him to say but should emerge from public debate - a common theme for those camping out off Wall Street since mid-September, who have stirred up U.S. political debate and, a Reuters poll found, won sympathy from over a third of Americans.
A suggestions log posted at http://15october.net ("This space is ready for YOUR idea for the revolution") range from a mass cutting up of credit cards ("hit the banks where it counts") to "use technology to make education free."
For all such utopianism, the possibility that peaceful mass action, helped by new technologies, can bring real change has been reinforced by the success of Arab uprisings this year.
"I've been waiting for this protest for a long time, since 2008," said Daniel Schreiber, 28, an editor in Berlin. "I was always wondering why people aren't outraged and why nothing has happened and finally, three years later, it's happening."
Quite what is happening, though, is hard to say. The biggest turnouts are expected where local conditions are most acute.
Italian police are preparing for tens of thousands to march in Rome against austerity measures planned by the beleaguered government of Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
Yet in crisis-ravaged Athens, where big protests have seen violence at times of late, a sense of fatigue and futility may limit numbers on Saturday. In Madrid, where thousands of young "indignados," or "angry ones," camped out for weeks, many also feel the movement has run out of steam since the summer.
Germans, where sympathy for southern Europe's debt troubles is patchy, the financial center of Frankfurt, and the European Central Bank in particular, is expected to be a focus of marches calling by the Spanish-inspired Real Democracy Now movement.
Complicating German sentiments, however, a series of small bombs found on trains has stirred memories of the left-wing guerrilla attacks that grew in the 1970s from frustration at a lack of change after the student protests of 1968.
CITY OF LONDON
British student protests a year ago were marked by some acts of violence by what authorities say were hard-core anarchists. Days of looting in London in August were put down to motives that mingled political discontent with criminal opportunism.
As an international center of finance, the City of London is key target. But organizers know strong police powers make setting up a Wall Street-style protest camp there far from easy.
"There's quite a bit of fatigue setting in," said one young veteran of last year's protests against higher university fees. "But if it's still going by Monday or Tuesday, I think that will excite students and they will head down. The City is much more the focus of people's anger now, compared to a year ago."
A long Saturday of rallies may start in New Zealand, where the Occupy Auckland Facebook page provides links recommending "suitable clothing ... a sleeping bag, a tent, food" -- but, in a family-friendly spirit, strictly no drugs or alcohol.
Asian authorities and businesses may have less to fear, since most of their economies are still growing strongly.
Tracking across the time zones, through towns large and small ("Occupy Norwich!" reads a website from the picturesque English city), the New York example has also prompted calls for similar occupations in dozens of U.S. cities from Saturday.
In Houston, protesters plan to tap into anger at big oil companies. As the world's day ends, hardy souls will be marching in Fairbanks. "We will be obeying traffic lights," insist the authors of OccupyAlaska.org, and they "will be dressed warm."
History suggests such actions are unlikely, of themselves, to change the world. As one anonymous poster at 15october.net writes, "Fleshing out ideas into living reality has always been the bugbear of radical politics." And while anger at corporate greed is widespread, there are plenty of voters who would agree with the Australian who posted on the OccupySydney site that those marching will be "the lazy, the paranoid, the confused."
But some analysts do see a potential for political change.
Jeff Madrick, a prominent economics writer, speaks warmly of the serious and reasonable debate he found at Zuccotti Park. Revolutions may be rare, but the protests could push lawmakers to act on some of the demands, he said last week: "It may begin to change public opinion enough to give Congress, people in Washington, the courage of their own convictions."

How to get MY ex back (VIDEO)

The Magic of Making Up

Are you in a broken relationship and asking the question ‘How do I get my back?’
When you break up with someone you really love, you are bound to go through painful emotions.  You will naturally feel sad, depressed and hurt, and most importantly, you miss them.  “How do I get my ex back?” then becomes the puzzle you want to solve.

There are many websites, books, blogs, forums that have been designed to answer the question, how do I get my ex back? But common sense can really make a difference after a breakup.  Common courtesy can go long way toward healing your relationship. Remember you have to do it in style and with class so that you don’t lose your esteem before him.

Basically, if you want to get your ex back then follow this simple advice.  By doing this, you’ll give yourself the best chance of getting back together with that special someone you love.

Don’t play games:  Unfortunately many people resort to this during breakups because they think it will give them a sense of power.  If you can make your ex think that you don’t care, or you care more than you really do, you’re manipulating them and it can feel great.  But it won’t last long.

You’ll soon realize that lying and tricking the other person isn’t a good outlook. Anything good that might come from it will always be sullied a little because of the lie.

Some people play games the usual game of pretending to be dating someone else, or they pretend to be in love with someone else. They think it will make their ex jealous.  While it doesn’t work often, other times it seals the breakup because it backfires. You wouldn’t want to destroy your chances.

Your ex could be so jealous at the thought of you being with someone else that they want you back.  Or they could decide that since you moved on so quickly, you don’t really care about them anyway.  So it should be time for them to move on too. You will never know the way this trick will swing until it’s late anyways.

Try not to be mean. This holds true in any situation or any relationship, but sometimes the anger around a breakup makes us act more viciously than we normally should.  Even if you were hurt, the fact that you want to know, ‘How to get your ex back?” shows that you’re ready to forgive that person.  If you couldn’t, you wouldn’t want your ex back in the first place, you’d be glad it was over.

How have you been acting?  If you were your ex, would you look forward to spending time with you or even talking to you?  Would you dread each time?  Do you shout and nag? Avoid raising all kinds of argument. Work very hard at controlling your anger and hurt, and being a person they can really miss.

Whether you ask “How to get my girlfriend back?” or “How to get my Boyfriend back?” The answer is be on your best behavior and make your ex remember what brought you guys together in the first place. They’ll remember your good points and will definitely miss them.  Then you’ll have a good chance of being getting back with your ex.

These are just the beginning steps in getting ex back. They are the initial steps I followed when I lost the love of my life. These aren't my original ideas however. I turned to T 'Dub' Jackson when I had no idea of how to get my true love back at the time.

T 'Dub' authored a simple, down to earth step by step plan called "The Magic OfMaking Up". And you know, it worked like magic for us. Now its like there has never been a breakup.

Netflix Reverses on Spinning Off Their DVD Business

Well, it only took about three weeks for Netflix to reverse course and kill “Qwickster” as reported in today’s Wall Street Journal. Netflix announced today that it is reversing its decision last month to separate its movie streaming business from it’s DVD-by-Mail business, “Qwickster.”

The separation was not just a “name only” issue: but it would have forced all the Netflix customers to maintain separate account information and movie lists on two different websites. This turned into a losing proposition. Customer outrage went up as Netflix’ stock price went down; and numerous other movie services (Dish Network’s Blockbuster, Amazon, Apple) were using the customer frustration generated by Netflix to step into the vacuum with new service offerings to try and make the dissatisfied Netflix customers switch to other services. Netflix share price dropped 40% since announcing the Qwickster spin-off last month, and on news that they were going back to the Netflix for both streaming and DVDs by mail, their stock went up 7% in early trading today.
So, Netflix’ CEO Reed Hastings admitted they made a mistake in creating the Qwickster spin-off, and reversed course. I think Netflix has enough goodwill in the marketplace, as well as a quality product, to ride this out. They may even be able to turn this into a positive development in the next few months.
This has a number of similarities to Coca Cola, when about twenty five years ago, Coke decided to change the formula to make Coke sweeter, and created “New Coke” to replace their classic beverage. Well, the public outcry was deafening, and very soon after making the switch, Coke reversed its decision and came back with “Coke Classic.”
The controversy actually seemed to help Coke. By having “New Coke” and “Coke Classic,” Coca Cola got twice as much shelf space in stores, their name stayed in the news for months, and in the end, they got to claim that they were loyal to their customers, “heard their voices,” and made the switch because they wanted to take care of the people who embraced their product.
It’ will be interesting to see how Netflix comes out of this. This could change the narrative in their favor, and they could potentially use this as an opportunity to tell their customers that they’re valued, their voices were heard, and Netflix made the change to serve their loyal followers.

So you can hive a sigh of relief.
