Ellen DeGeneres is in good humor after being rushed to the hospital yesterday for chest pains. The comedienne made a jokey statement in her opening monologue just after the incident, declaring “First of all, I’m fine. Let me just say, I’m fine. The paramedics were strippers that I had called. That’s how the rumors got started.” See the full video, and hear the rest of DeGeneres’ explanation after the jump.
DeGeneres explained that she felt a tightness in her chest starting Sunday evening that carried into when she arrived at the studio to tape her talk show on Monday. She called the paramedics as a precaution because “it’s better to be safe than sorry, and who doesn’t want to see a fireman occasionally?” She admitted she was surprised at the number who responded. Her statement continued in its Is she joking or is she serious? manner that many have come to love about DeGeneres. She reiterated, “Everything is fine. I don’t know what it is, but it’s fine,” then quipped, “I have a baboon heart that I had put in earlier.” DeGeneres wrapped up her statement, thanking the paramedics, nurses, and TMZ “for caring so much.”
