Rue McClanahan Dies Of Stroke

Golden Girls actress Rue McClanahan died of a stroke early Thursday at age 76.
McClanahan had suffered a minor stroke last November after bypass surgery.
McClanahan’s manager, Barbara Lawrence, told People magazine that the actress had her family around her when she died, according to Reuters.
McClanahan is best known for her role as Blanche Devereaux on the 1980s television comedy show Golden Girls, for which she won an Emmy award.
The actress also played in Maude, a 1970s television series and performed as Madame Morrible in the Broadway musical Wicked in 2005.
McClanahan’s death follows that of two of her Golden Girls co-stars. Estelle Getty, who played Sophia Petrillo, died in 2008, and Bea Arthur, who played Dorothy Zbornak, died in 2009.
Betty White, 88, is now the only surviving actress from the Golden Girls central cast.
